Vintage 1961 Swiss Army Bread Bag

The bag features durable tan canvas construction and thick leather straps. Made in Switzerland. Originally used by soldiers as a shoulder satchel or crossbody bag to carry rations. Bag measures roughly 12" x 12" x 5"

This leather has a makers stamp that provides the exact production details and historical origin of the Swiss military bag. The stamp stood as a physical signature of craftsmanship—meaning the artisan was personally vouching for the lifetime durability of the gear. It was also a way for the Swiss government to authenticate the gear, track it and hold makers accountable.

  • Maker: Manufactured by "G. GENOUD" (or a very similar regional name variant).
  • Location: Crafted in Fribourg, a prominent city and canton in Switzerland.
  • Year: Produced in 1961, indicated by the "61" stamped in the center.

Other Features of the Bag & Hardware Functionality

  • Belt Loops: Heavy leather loops at the top attach directly to a standard military utility belt.
  • Support Loops: Two canvas vertical loops near the bottom stabilize the bag against your hip.
  • Strap Anchors: Metal D-rings hold the removable canvas shoulder strap securely.
  • Salt and Pepper Canvas: The distinctive green-grey flecked weave provides high durability and water resistance.

This is a vintage item with signs of wear and may have imperfections due to use and age.
