Vintage Mid-Century Silver-plated Oval Meat Platter featuring a traditional "well and tree" or "tree of life" gravy well, roped border, ornate floral scrolled handles and a footed base to elevate it off the table. 16.28"x 11.78" x2"

The branch-like channels stamped into the center are designed to collect juices and grease running off carved meat like roast beef, turkey, or ham. The channels slope down into a deeper, round "well" reservoir at one end. This pools the juices together so they can be cleanly ladled out for making gravy or sauces.

Designed to fit a standard holiday turkey, large ham or roast beef while leaving enough surface room for carving. Platter is heavily tarnished.

Stamp of 3 three shields underneath belongs to the Sheridan Silver Co., an American silversmithing firm founded in 1946 in Taunton, Massachusetts. "Silverplate" stamp below the maker's shield stamp confirms this item is made of electroplated silver over a base metal (typically copper or brass) rather than solid sterling silver.
